I am working for Employment WORKS http://www.employmentworks.org.au and we service the Mid Murray region, ie Swan Hill, Kerang, Robinvale.
I don't remember where you are Tully but there is bound to be a Job Network Member in your area just put in your location at this site http://www.jobsearch.gov.au and it will give you local JNM's and you can search for jobs there too
Otherwise sites like Seek etc are good
If you send me a PM with your resume and job preferences I can have a look around for you as I do have a few contacts around.

I do http://www.jobsearch.gov.au each day but we have an average of 4 new jobs a day <sigh> here in the sth west region, Warrnambool area.
I had not a bad day today at work so that's when I think to myself oh this won't be too bad....then I have a bad day and it all goes belly up.
There's a new Homemaker Centre opening here next month so I did a search and thru the local paper website discovered the traders going in there. I emailed one of them (resume attached) before wk this morning, but have no reply so far. I'm a bit of a "get off your bum and make your own future/luck/fortune happen" person and rarely let a chance go by to, I believe the term these days is, "network" hence my note to you.
What I'd really love to do is open a shop myself...so my question is, are there any programs at the moment like NEIS (is that it??) but for people not on benefits? Just for people who want to open a shop/start a business but have no business plan and no funds??

Unfortunatly the only programmes that I know of are for people looking for work (on centerlink payments) or returning to work (from being at home Mum, careing for someone etc). You already touched on NEIS which is a fantastic programme that gives you 12 mths payments without job searching activities and aswell as small business training and a mentor..................but I dare say you wouldn't be eligable :cry:
There is also transition to work and as the name suggests this is for people how have been out of the work force for whatever reason for a period of time and wish to return. You don't need to be on Newstart oryouth allowance etc.. but alas you do need to have been out of work for some time. :cry:
So unfortunatly you don't qualify for the programmes that I know of but there may be grants out there for a smart business idea to get a start, say a organic health food come permie advice come aquaponic :wav: come internet chat room come cafe come bookshop come.......well you get the drift

Nope, don't qualify for any of that stuff. Was thinking I may just march myownself into a bank and say, well, what can I do/borrow? Guess they'd want some sort of an idea as to figures though and I have no idea where to start...I want to open a scrapbook supplies shop....do a little google on scrapbooking...it's the most popular hobby in the whole wide world (1/3 of the US does it for example) and there is no shop in this region. Not very permaculture though is it <gulp> :?

:lol: Scrapbooking is so too permie linked...if you reuse old cards, bits of old ribbon etc for your embellishments....lots of bits and pieces you would otherwise throw out...It's also about family, memories and making it yourself.
For your shop why not start small....run some small classes from home...look into shared shop space with another small operator...use your garage....go for it...

Awww, good on ya Cathy, that's the scrapping spirit! It's funny you say about reusing actually 'cos the other night I asked other half to cut the little ribbons out of my top (you know the ones they stitched to the shoulders that they use in the shops to tie it to the hangers??) when he handed them to me I saw they were a silvery colour and had little print on them..Hot Options LMAO!! Yes, Kmart or Target or one of those trendy bowteeks :lol: :lol: :lol: and I said Oooohhh, I can save those and use them for embellishments!!

The can help with Networking and cheap / free courses such as "How does GST affect you" and all the hidden stuff you need to know.
