    Default Victorian Garlic

For those Victorians out there who wish to source some 'local' garlic, Green Temple is now selling new season garlic.

Our garlic is grown in a mandala style system, without the use of pesticides, herbicides, fertilisers and machinery. The only inputs are the chicken pooh that falls from our own chickens, a little supplementary feed and various types of straw mulch sourced locally. We never grow the garlic immediately after the chickens have been on the soil without a green manure or vegetable crop in between. Most of the imported straw is grown 'conventionally' but within 10km of Green Temple.

We are mostly selling our garlic in plaits, which work out to approximately $35 per kilo. A bargain if you ask me With what we are calling small, medium and large plaits

They make excellent Christmas gifts for those who want something natural and vital.

This Springs heavy rains and wet conditions caused us a few problems, but the good bulbs have nice plump cloves.

Let me know if you are interested

Can you give us an average weight for a small, medium or large plait, please? The per kilo price sounds really good, compared to shop prices here in country SEQld.

    Thanks guys,

I'm working on something like about 400gm, 600gm and 750gm, which translates to $15, $20 and $25 respectively. I must admit that I haven't done much market research but I am working on the fact that I am a tight-ar$e and that those sizes and prices would cater for me. I find the 'regular' prices for organic garlic of around $70 a kilo pretty amazing! The little capitalist in me say it might make organic certification a worthwhile effort, but I'm a little like Fukuoka too in that I reckon organic done well should be cheaper than conventional stuff (of course I exclude imported stuff from that, I think it should not even be available ) But I digress...

If you think some folks might go for bigger plaits, like 1 kg, I would also consider that. I also haven't plaited it all yet so I may tinker with this (perhaps ditch the 600 gm and go with the larger 850), but the $5 increments makes it easy, especially for markets.

Let me know what you think.

We've decided to work with standard packages of loose garlic in 1kg, 2kg and 3kg amounts. With a delivered price anywhere in Australia (Except TAS and WA) of $45, $85 and $115 respectively. For special orders outside of this size please contact us through our webpage www.greentemple.com.au. It's still under construction so please excuse it's basic presentation for now.

Also we have decided to make only $5 (quite small specifically for markets really), $15 and $25 plaits this year, or larger ones if specifically requested. We are happy to send plaits through the mail, but will do this with a 'plus postage and handling' cost.

    Cheers

    Hello Grahame,

I post Composting Worms via Austraia post and you may already know this but the 3kg Express Satchel is often cheaper than the Regular Post. Express Post is guarenteed overnight anywhere in the Express Post area and regular post can take up to 4 working days. To send Composting Worms to Adelaide from the Gold Coast via Regular Post was $14 90 I think it was and 4 working days plus a weekend. Then I sent another lot via the Express Satchel and it was $12.60 and overnight. Long as it fits in the bag and under 3 kg no problems. A small saving but better in your back pocket.

We have some new season garlic ready to go!

As the weather gods would have it, we lost a huge amount of our early crop to rot (big wet followed by a big dry and a late wet again).

We are selling through the Farmhouse Direct site this year. Mainly because customers get a better deal on shipping. Feel free to check out our range of pickled and sun-dried garlic too. If you are after something that is not on that site or would prefer to order directly from us you can still do so.

    Looking forward to your orders
