Is there any hope for this planet when such short sighted people are only interested in making money at all costs?

After visiting the US a little while ago all the ywould need to do would be to reduce their meal sizes to what most western people call normal and there is at least an instant 50% reduction in food production. I am being a bit stereotypical here but everything seemed to have to be bigger than the next one.
