Permaculture Sanitation Systems

I am currently taking a course in "Low Cost Sustainable Sanitation Systems" and am doing my final paper on "Permaculture Sanitation Systems in Theory and Practice", so I was wondering...

If anyone is interested in helping me out, I would love to have the opportunity to interview (via skype or through chat) some of you who have you own sanitation systems on your site (greywater system, composting toilets, constructed wetland, urine diverting toilets, etc.), especially if you reuse the nutrients to grow food.

Hi guys,

Just a word to let you know that I've discovered an addition to the system- I dumped (sorry) the feathers from an old pillow into my humanure system (half of a 'no wee' former rotating compost drum that sits on the ground, and a lid in place when I don't need the seat for the business) - hey presto- no insects being attracted to the poo in the humanure loo! And the poo just disappears into the feathers never to be seen as poo again.

Ecological sanitation (ecosan) is really the way of the future and is more suited to permaculture.

Can ecosan be done without high dependence on energy? (esp oil).

Well my system uses plastic buckets, bought new for the purpose as we can't get the freebies here. But apart from that there's really not very much dependency on oil. Maybe the sawdust, which is a waste product of an industry which uses oil to power its machines and then uses oil when we collect a trailer load, might count as a highly oil dependent. But with no oil, I guess enough wood would be sawn to keep the place heated that there would be enough sawdust to supply the cover material for the buckets. Or I could switch to using something else, like leaves or waste from the olive press.
