I have a thyroid problem which means I have to avoid iodine - the new laws which say every load in a bakers must have iodine in it is a worry

I contace Laucke - the people who make a lot of bread mixes, to ask if they have iodine in their bread mixes and no they dont

so if you have a prob with iodine or etest genetically modified foods - give them a try

I have nothing to do with laucke ecept being a customer

here's their email to my questions

RE: Mandatory replacement of Salt with Iodised Salt in bread

In accordance with a Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) proposal, it has been Legislated that Iodised Salt must be used as an ingredient for making bread, where unfortified salt would otherwise be used. This was to be implemented by 9th October 2009.

This requirement applies to all Commercially produced bread.

Organic bread and bread mixes for bread making at home are exempt from this requirement.

We like to make a wide range of bread mixes distinct from all others on the market: with special attention to health, flavour, nutrition and quality. Laucke products attempt to be 100% natural with active avoidance of unnecessary additives. Therefore, we will not be adding iodised salt to our bread mixes for home baking.

Laucke produce a range of “Manufacturing” Pre-mixes for the production of bread by Commercial Bakeries, typically in 25kg bags. Such Pre-mixes are required to contain Iodised Salt. The Ingredient Labelling of Manufacturing Pre-mixes was varied at the time of the new ingredient inclusion, so as to enable customers to clearly identify mixes that have the Iodised Salt included.

Laucke Flour Mills has a policy of active avoidance of the use or inclusion of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) within the range of products that Laucke produces.

We have sought an assurance from all suppliers that their products are GMO free, and have further requested that we be informed of any change in the GMO status of any product they supply

I hope this information is of assistance to you.

Best Regards,
