Default New Member status and looking at older posts

I've noticed a couple of things today...

    1. Everyone except moderators have suddenly become 'new members' again, even folks that have been around since 2005.

    2. I can't seem to see older posts in some of the forums, like I can see one page worth of threads but there is no 'next page' or page 2 option.

    Anyone else noticed this?

Yes, something's not right. Pages are not showing, but you can get to them via member's postings. Search isn't working properly though - it's giving incomplete results.

Some members seem to still be Senior and some are New. Maybe Admin took up the suggestion that we all start as Senior and gradually get promoted to New as the more experienced we get the more we realise how little we know ;-)

Hmm. For the older threads issue, try this:

    1) On the top of the page is a drop-down menu titled "Forum Actions" - Select "General Settings" from the list
    2) On the "General Settings" page, scroll down to the "Thread Display Options" section and notice the "Default Thread Age Cutoff" setting
    3) If "Default Thread Age Cutoff" is not already "Show All Threads", use the window to select that display option

Let me know if this changes anything. I recall running into this a while back and that setting seemed to fix it.

As far as the change to "New Member" and search function, don't know. Craig has been working on our request list and perhaps inadvertently something was changed? Will check it out.

    Thanks!

Yep, that fixes it, thanks Bill. Is there an advantage for the forum to have the default set at showing one months lot of postings?

There does seem to be a problem with the search. As a test I tried 'mollison' and limited to my own posts. I only got three threads, but I have used the word mollison in more than that (and can find them if I search by 'mollison' alone).

Maybe Craig could turn off the member status? Or set them all to the same thing - we've had some good suggestions in the past ;-) I've been looking for the thread where we discussed this before, but it's not turning up in my searches :-(

It's almost a pity. I was feeling younger....

    Hi Pebble,

wrt your search question. On the Advanced Search page there are two tabs, one that says Single Content Type and one that says Multiple Content Type. For me the default is Multiple Content Type and when I did your Mollison / Pebble search, it returned three threads just like you said. However, when I went to the Single Content Type tab and repeated the Mollison / Pebble search, it returned many more threads (I can't remember how many ... old age).

When you get a chance, could you try this out and let us know if the search results are more appropriate? I haven't yet figured out what the Single vs Multiple means, but will post when all becomes clear!

    Thanks!
    Bill

Thanks Bill! Yes that works on the single content type. My default is also set to multiple, which is what I was using before.

I came across this, which you might want to delete again (it was deleted before because it is potentially libelous/defamatory): http://forums.permaculture.org.au/sh...yright-swindle

Interesting that it's become visible again with the new forum.

    cheers,
    pebble.

This is a small thing, but any chance the date defaults for the forum can be changed to anglo instead of US? At the moment the dates show as month, day, year. The old forum was using day, month, year.

I can't find anything in my account settings to change.

I don't know if we have the power to do that sort of change anymore.
We may need to refer it o Murray?
