Edible plants for dryland high altitude - any suggestions?

I have been living for 9 years at 1300m in the Sierra Nevada mountains in southern Spain. I have trialled numerous varieties of edible trees and shrubs from temperate climates and am now trying to source seeds of varieties that may come from dryland environments, but which can tolerate cold. I have exhausted those from the dry desert areas of the American south-west. Is there anyone out there with experience in the Middle East or North Africa who can make some suggestions? I do have irrigation at the farm, but want to minimise its use.

we are 3,400 feet above sea level rainfall is not too bad we are on the edge of drought declared. Hazelnuts, walnuts, raspberry apple, strawberry all grow here. Generally any of the british plants seem to do well. Not many edible native australian plants grow this high but some of the native peppers go OK.
