    Default Alergies....

My finance has been suffering from Allergies since spring started, and while they are calming down a bit now, it still worries me, since we are currently staying in town as I build the cabin. It will probably be a big problem next year when spring will start while we are living up the mountain and she will be exposed to much more pollen.

We have both heard an old wives tale that eating amounts of locally produced raw honey can alleviate symptoms by introducing pollen to the body in a form that it can handle, and thus telling the bosy to stop producing reaction to it when inhaled. Any truth to this?

I have been fortunate. I'm only allergic to cities. . . well smog. My mom laughs at me when I go down to Southern California and start sneezing constantly. She says I must be a site out in the woods, and doesn't believe me that I don't sneeze at all out here.

Are there any other remedies you guys have had success with? Shy of claritin, etc?

raw honey is antibacterial so would help with any bacteria overgrowth that happens to inflammed tissue and the pollen idea could be true.
for hayfever in general... cod liver oil capules up to 3 times a time when symptoms bad ... back to 1 a day for most of spring when symptoms get better. Garlic and horseradish capsules 3 times a day if hayfever produces signs of a "cold"... slight fever, cough, discoloured nasal discharge. The garlic and horseradish dries nasal secretions and is antibacterial. Also use of a particle mask from your local hardwear store helps when mowing or moveing lots of plant matter.
For general medicine there is a long acting cortisone (in Aust) that works well for dampening seasonal hay fever symptoms...talk to your local doctor
    good luck with the sneezes

Make sure there is not an underlying cause to the pollen problem .
My own journey through 30 yrs of awfull hayfever peaking at spring time was uncomfortable to say the least . The pollen was just a trigger for me ,i had had far too much exposure to insectacides in the sheep industry which probably did the damage and various toxins in the food chain kept me on the edge , some foods will put me on the floor . Red wine and cola will trigger asthma attacks . However since finding out by accident what was going on , doing a detox and modifying my diet my hayfever has completly gone for the last 5 yrs . So have a good hard look outside the square there maybe something in the past or present that is at least part off your grief .
good luck i know what its like

    Hi Terra,

What program of detox did you do? I've been looking at the Macrobiotic diet.

Permaculture is a gestalt ... a study of the whole. Not just how to produce more and better food, but how that food production affects and is affected by the surrounding environment.

Blackpacker, nettle and mullein are both medicinal herbs that more than likely grow locally to you that are useful in healing allergies.

    @ 9anda1f

I didnt and still dont know much about "Detox" i was pretty sick i just went to very well respected natrapath and did exactly what she said , there were some tablets but mostly diet , from memory it was potato and celery soup for a few days , then on to juices , no dairy or meat for a while , the whole process lasted about a month . But the biggest factor for me was learning to take my reading glasses to the supermarket anything with preservative or colouring numbers on the label stays there .
It must be really difficult for people with serious allergies to foods , these days the worst thing for me is the hot cooked chickens , i can buy and cook the supermarket chicken myself however the precooked ones are bad news i think it is the flavour enhancer however im not interested in any more "Trial taste sessions" they can stick them . The last attempt was a tablespoon sized piece with no skin how much bad chemical could be in that , there was too much for me .
    Regards Terra

Using local honey worked for me. I had over 50 allergies in the city. I haven't had so much as a cold in 3 years now since I am in the country also.

Local raw milk did the trick for me.
