    Hi everyone,
I'm just about to move house and want some suggestions for some small, productive fruit trees and or vines. We aready have mangoes, meyer lemon, macadamia, grapes and valencia oranges. We are susceptable to fruit fly here so they need to be something that they won't attack or that fruits in the colder months. We live in Wollongong which is the same climate as Sydney.

For a winter crop you could try guava or navel oranges. However, you should be aware that by planting a winter fruiting crop you could be giving the fruit fly an ideal environment to survive winter.

You need to minimise fruit fly - don't let overripe fruit lie around. Use eco friendly bait traps (vegemite mixes).

    Regards

i'd go tamarillo - a couple. they'd do well up there. our couple limp through winter in central vic...but i've keep them going so far! (tamarillo and organge juice is sublime)

or any sapotes and a few avocadoes.

hmmm. love fantasising about planting out in a completely different climate.

    cheers

You say vines as well. What about a black passionfruit? We're in Sydney and have a grafted one (rootstock is Passiflora Caerulea) on a lattice. It's very vigorous but you can keep it small by pruning. The fruit are as big as nectarines and yum-o!
