Dr. MacDougall, in 1901, set out to weigh the "soul" He made a very very precise specialized bed for people with TB to lay in. He found, in short, when a human dies, they lose 21grams of weight instantly. The work took into account the persons last breath, and the waste that is expelled from the body at death. Due to the nature of the weighing bed he made, the expelled waste is not the nature of the mysterious 21grams, nor is the last breath. He was only able to do the experiment on 6 humans near death before being ejected from the TB Home he was working at.
Sadly, he replicated the experiments on dogs, and they showed no signs of weight loss at death.
