    NARRATION
The Rocky Mountains of North America - home to some of the most beautiful, pristine forests in the world. But the shades of burnt golden reds aren't the changing tones of Autumn; they're dead and dying trees.

    Dr Craig Allen
We're looking at tree mortality over a scale of tens of millions of hectares in the last decade alone.

    NARRATION
In fact, right across the globe, there are reports of trees dying in mass numbers.

Here in my region we're experiencing mass tree death due to Oak Wilt, which is made worse by the drought. Fortunately a diversity of woody shrubs and smaller trees seem to be taking over under the dead trees in many places. Not quite the same as the oaks, but better than no woody plants at all.....

When I grew up in the NE USA I sadly had to watch the acid rain destroying the trees for years along the NY State Throughway to Canada. The trees are still dying & haven't stopped. We reached the tip of the ice berg a long time ago... some of us are climbing down the side to see how much time the rest of you have.
