I guess thats a possibility, but we know that plants communicate across species.
Interesting plant. Has a lot to teach us I'm sure.

Perhaps because not all plant life has been around that long. Tree ferns, Redwoods, Giant Sequoias, Ginkgo...and ??? Annuals may need to react different then trees that have been around as long as sharks.
Or, perhaps, we are looking at this wrong.
Perhaps we should be asking ourselves what else gingko can teach us because it IS so ancient.

I have seen some amazing acts of leaning away from lemon balm that seeded next to some of my plants. Boy, do they hate that stuff!![]()

this seems to make the choice to be vegitarian on the grounds of not wanting to kill things a bit nonsensical if the plants communicate with each other then who can say that they dont have a soul
Sweetpea: could you elaborate more on the plants which seem to dislike lemon balm? Thats one of the first perennials we have planted and we have it growing throughout the garden. I have planted it as a nectary, dynamic accumulator, and olfactory plant (besides its tea use!). We haven't noticed any ill side effects on other plants yet. What should we be looking out for?

Native cultures world wide have always thanked both animal, & vegetable (using very broad terms there) and continued to eat both & show thanks by using every single part possible. Permaculture lesson there? Perhaps. Either way, life feeds on life, feeds on life, feeds on....
