Make friends with a local permie - they'll share their comfrey with you. Where are you Corniola?

So how is this 18-day thing going, and what were the ingredients?

And one things to remember, even after the compost is ready to go, it should remain damp, i.e. worked into the soil or covered with lots of mulch to stay damp because that is the environment the little soil critters need. if it dries out they will die. But if you wet it again, they will be able to grow again.

    I refer you to

    http://forums.permaculture.org.au/sh...periment/page2

It did have a few critters in it that I could readily see, & the fish did break down... mostly.
    It's been mostly used up.

Things with higher nitrogen will activate, so comfrey/green grass/manure/blood and bone/urine etc. will heat it up. Don't make it too hot, or your pile shrinks rapidly.

If I was hardcore about it, I could see the value in a thermometer and balancing different ingredients to get it right each and every time.
    That's what I thought. Thanks!
