    Hi Andrew,

I'm Peter Heffernan at Flinders on the Mornington Peninsula.

Steve La Valley is The Botanical Ark, at Warrigul in Victoria. He also comes to the Red Hill Market and sells (and talks) there.

My permaculture teacher Rick Coleman suggested grafting English once the Black have reached a decent height with a view to timber harvesting by my grandchildren while my children get the English walnuts while looking after their kids timber inheritance.

Blackwood Wattle 'chop and drop' then 'copse' for timber works.

I have also interspersed oaks for 'leaf drop' mulch and acorns

one can use fresh cow dung to protect the nut from foraging rats. It was easier than bird wire 'cages' and seems to be working so far.

Is black walnut a 'natural' blackberry control?

    Keep me posted.

    Good planting,
    Peter

When I saw the list (in past Google navigations) I did wonder if we might have a 'natural' blackberry fix other than goats (which I have never been sure about).
