fast growing plant 3 or 4 m high

which useful or edible plant grow very fast? Climbing or like bamboo?
Are there plants which grows in some month 3-4 m high? We need shade, and a useful plant would be nice. Our climate is subtropics.

Hedwig, thithonia is an excellent fast growing plant to about 3-4 meters. It is mostly used for making mulch. Has pretty yellow flowers which attract pollinators, too.

Sugarcane

You can just pull the leafs off and cut them up as mulch or chop the whole thing up and then smash them up with the lawn mower, they make wonderful mulch when used fresh.

I'm growing black and red sugarcane here, the possums do like to nibble the sweet tips when they are just starting out.

You can glow them in clumps like bamboo. best part about them is you can chop off a bit and chew on them, mmmmm

I think I know the plant you meen not sure of the name tho..

The people next door grow this plant it grows realy quick verry tall,and lots of people looking at it and happy funny expressions on there faces,I think it a smoke bush or somthing,anytime i sneek a look someones smoking ciggarets. it must impress the other neighbers too because even other people are starting to peek over the fence and smile too.last week the had a ceramony or something everybody was sat around praying sort of, to it.Everybody seamed very relaxed and happy
