I just noticed that this button doesn't show the complete list of new threads. Yesterday or earlier today i noticed a thread that I wanted to look at but didn't have time to look. When i look now, its not there. And i also found another thread that someone had responded to a couple of days ago but which i never saw.
Maybe there's something about the what's new thread that i don't know, like new posts in the last 24 hours or something like that.

its reset each time you use it , so what was new yestrday is now old , so will not show up ..

That's true but there is something odd about it. I use the 'new posts' link each time I come to the forum and there is a discrepancy between that and what turns up in the RSS feed i.e. the new posts link seems to miss some new posts. Fairly often a thread will turn up on the 'new posts' link that is a new post with several replies to it, but I've not seen it before even though I've been checking in that that time period.

Mike shouldn't it be new until you've opened the thread?

No, it's new until you've opened the What's New page and then it resets (after a period of time, not sure how long it is).

Actually, I think it refreshes when you log out. So you might log in, not check what's new and log out. Next time you login it won't be new any more.
Also if you don't login, and just have a browse the 'what's new' button will give you everything from the last 24 hours. There is another thing that happens whereby new members will make a post and it is delayed (until admin can check it I guess) so it won't show up on what's new.
Makes sense?
Anyway, a lot of it is old-hat :D

I don't bother logging out. I just close the page and reopen it when i want to. Saves time. Anyway, a what's new function that has that sort memory is not so good. If it was a simple matter of extending that time switch to something longer, I hope someone does it.

Except then you'll be getting threads you've already seen.
I don't log out either, and the page still refreshes after... some minutes? I'd guess 15 or 30.

I checked posts this morning @ 8 , and read a few , and just logged on again .
Only new posts from after 8.00 am have showed up , and not any of the ones I did not read .
Andrea , should not take long to figure out what section the post you wanted to look at was in .
There are not as many as some of the forums I visit . eg grass roots .

If I don't have time to look at all the threads I just leave the page open.
