Hi everybody,

I am trying to find out whether anyone has tried introducing permaculture to Northern Ethiopia (further North that Addis Ababa). I am aware of a project running in Southern Ethiopia, but that is all.

Thank you - and thank you for this informative website about permaculture. I became interested in the subject when a friend showed me an amazing video of what has been achieved already with permaculture projects around the world.

Best Wishes,
Claire

Hi Claire and welcome to the forum!

Don't know of any projects in Ethiopia but there may be some here more knowledgeable of the region than I.

Are you thinking of starting a project there?

Bill

Hi Bill,

Thank you for your reply. I'm not thinking of starting one personally, but I have a friend who comes from Hayq (he lives in London now) and we would both like to get a project started in his home village in Ethiopia.

My part would consist of promoting the project and raising funds for it.

Much as I would like to say 'I'm a rich philanthropist' - I'm not. I have a small fundraising business and I work to raise awareness (and funds) for several projects.

Each product we sell (for Ethiopia it is coffee) has a link to a particular project or charity we support - and a portion of the retail price goes to that charity or project.

I would love to support something in Hayq, but nobody goes there - it is too isolated. I have made contact with 'Linkethiopia' and their director has expressed an interest in establishing an office in Hayq at some point - but, as ever, funding is the sticking point.

However, Linkethiopia would be a useful point of contact in the area for anyone interested in starting a permaculture project in Northern Ethiopia - and Yosef's family would be keen to help, I'm sure (his brother is a teacher in Hayq).

If there are any Ethiopia enthusiasts here (most people seem to fall in love with the country and its people when they visit) , I would love to hear from you.

Thanks again for replying to my message Bill.

Kind Wishes,
Claire
