Hello,

If anyone is interested I today found a stove top outfit (circa 1970's) in excellent condition (still in its original box) with about 50 bottles (#20 & #27's) with some lids etc. I've put it on hold at the shop and they're charging AUD$35 for the lot - which is good price. Can organise delivery by post. I have put it on hold until tomorrow. I might buy it anyway - 'cause I'm a fowlers junkie.....and have it sit there for someone to buy later on.

Cheers,

DD

if you get no offers.
we'd be interested - for the bottles alone...
but our old 70s orange with a yellow lid is a bit rusty...so a back up would be good.

but don't want to deprive a non-kit owner from the beginning of their journey.

but if there are no takers - when we catch up next - maybe we can negociate...currently we have only 31s and 36s...so some smaller bottles would be good.

cheers

Dear DD
I AM INTERESTED!!!!!!!!!!
Will you accept a cheque?
If not I'll x/f cash to your bank account.
How soon can you send it?
Let me cover the post cost.
What else can I do to help the transaction go through?
I'll even beg if you want me to.
my email is grailprm@lisp.com.au.

hey dd.

i suggest you get it up to TriciaM asap.
i'll place my own order with the Red Cross Op Shop...
could be a whole new market - though did get a couple of nice warm jumpers to deal with the chilly central victorian mornings...quite a treat to watch the compost steaming next to the chook pen in our new place!

cheers

Chilly central Victorian mornings Eh?

I had an ice buildup on the inside of my windows this morning ... ... so let your imagination run wild about what it was like when I ventured out to bring in my gggggarbage bin.

Dear D Donahoo

The cost of transporting the $35 Fowlers Vacola from Bendigo to Lithgow is prohibitive. ($80).
Aust Post only handles packages up to 20 kilos - and the nearest IPEC or TNT carrier depots are at Bathurst and Orange - hours away from Lithgow.
As I don't own a vehicle road freighting would be unsuitable method.
Nor do AAE Air express deliver to Lithgow.

Also, forking out $115 for a 30 year old product was not part of my mindset when I set off on the Fowlers venture -
Therefore, if you want to negotiate with Darren D for it go right ahead. and I'll start searching for a kit closer to home.

i'll mention it to him next time we catch up (seems i am using all of mr doherty's services at the moment)

i'm currently doing a stocktake of jars and seeing how many lids and rings i am short. and though we try to be as organic as possible - i am being tempted by butternut pumpkins at 40c a kilogram!!! and making many mnay jars of soup!!!!!

best of luck in the serach tricia - there are surely plenty out there....and then well like in the mallee yesterday - when it rains, it pours!

Thanks D D -
I'm relieved to be relieved of what was becoming a `Fowl' burden.
I'll train it to Sydney for the weekend and ask my rels to drive me around some op shops and Tips - (Tempe Tip the most famous)

HI People,

I reckon this kit goes back to the early 1960's actually given the number edition of the book (#21 - my 1945 kit has a #19 book with it) that goes with it - and the era colours of the steriliser. I have a kit from the early 1970's that has very 70's colours and a promotional sticker on the side with whitlamesque siddies etc. on the bloke and carpenters hair do's on the women and is in nowhere as good a nick. Its a nice new kit (despite its vintage) - hardly been used - still in its original box. It looks like an EH that's been locked in a shed for probably closer to 40 odd years.

Just to clear up matters - Sorry Trish I don't make the prices up for these things - Australia Post has its prices (as explained in personal mail) - the Red Cross in Lyttleton Terrace Bendigo have their prices - someone earlier in this thread paid $15 (i think) for their kit - there's no RRP on 2nd hand items! I've seen kits down the tip centre for $5 at times - its the nature of the market - as they say in life and in cricket, "timing is everything".

By the looks of things I've got another kit - that's 3 now! + a few boxes of bottles and lids - so now I must have about 650-700 bottles !! Oh well more fruit and multi hot top bottling - yeh hah! Its a nice new kit too (despite its vintage) - hardly been used - still in its original box with the #21 edition booklet and all. It looks like an EH that's been locked in a shed for probably 35 odd years.

Well if anyone's becomes desparate and can't find anything I've now got a spare kit sitting here and you know the deal - could be just $55 for the kit posted (based on the postal price from
Bendigo to Lithgow at least) with a few bottles inside. For boxes of bottles well you've got the posted price there too from Trish's post.

I truly hope that Trish finds the kit for her - perhaps a nice gleaming stainless steel electric thermostatically controlled one with a red anodised lid with heaps of ss lidded bottles for $100 (a true deal I saw in the trading post once but I was too late...) - surely sex for a "vacolaite" - I sure dream about it - but then I'm crazy like that.

Bottle on....

Cheers,

Darren Doherty
