I once read a story (possibly an urban myth) that when posed the simple question of "Why?" in a philosophy exam, one student sagely answered "Why not!" and received a high mark.

Personally, I don't think many people (if any) understand why. Probably not important in the long run. But what is important is that it is and you have to deal with it. I reckon our purpose is to deal with it as best we can, and by that I mean deal with it in a way that represents us at our highest possible level of quality and integrity
