View Full Version : Composting Toilet???
Ok, so who has a composting toilet. We are putting a second toilet in the bathroom and are looking into waterless toilets, but I want to know from people who actually have them how they work, smell??? really!!! and cost. And just how and where do you use the compost? I've heard it's great burried under fruiting trees.
My idea would be to use this as the main toilet and just use the water flush when my rather large extended family come to play farmer.
What do you think?
Thank's

We have a Rota-Loo Jet.
There is a diagram at this link: http://www.rotaloo.com/01loo.html which also gives good info about how it works.
We do not have a problem with smell - it is usually the anaerobic composting in the water that causes the smell in septics.
We live on a bush block with very poor soils so when we bury the compost we usually plant another native tree over it - we find that the moisture retaining ability of the compost helps to establish the tree.
Our Rota-Loo is our only loo...there are two of us in the house - with my partner working from home and we have no issues regarding capacity or anything.
Composting loos have been discussed previously on this forum - a search through the archives may assist you further too.
Cheers,
Fran.
Thank's Franceyne,
I feel like an idiot for not doing that in the first place.
That and I want to go out in the yard and play but my tired, cranky nearly two year old has other plans for me!!!!!
I looked up the posts and I think that will be the way I go.
Thank's again,
Jet

No worries Jet. I, too have forgotten about the archives...'tis much more fun to converse with someone directly anyway :D
I hope your babe drifts off in a peaceful nap soon, so you can have a little Jet time.

it is MUCH better than an water wasting crapper and smells LESS
in fact lucky we got a composting toilet because we have to elave the door off the toilet to fit my wheelchair in there  no probs with a composting because the fan sucks smells straight down the loo
we use the compost on anything that needs fertiliser
