Hi, can you tell me if Peters books Back from the Brink and Beyond the Brink are in harmony with the permaculture concepts, please.
I am very new and quite overwhelmed with all the information available.
Thanks Kelly NSW, Australia

G'day Kelly

Welcome to the PRI Forum.

Sorry to answer a question, with a question, but I am more interested in what you think?

Hint - try comparing the two sets of principles ;)

Permaculture Principles (http://permacultureprinciples.com/index.php)

NSF Principles (http://www.nsfarming.com/principles.html)

With swales (thats if i have it right) Permaculture pushes dirt down hill to make swales but with Peter it is the other way

Hi Kelly,
lots of Peter Andrew's stuff works well with Permaculture: no till, respect for weeds as a means holding the soil together and as pioneer species, the "slow it, spread it, sink it" handling of water to reduce its destructive energy and make it drop its load. Permaculture does this most commonly with swales on sloping sites, but Peter Andrews works in valleys. I'm no expert on him, but I can see his chain of ponds theory playing out where I live surrounded by the Hawkesbury flood plain and I find lots to like in his work. Its beautifully explained here:
