Hi All,
If you'd like to read a little about our unscheduled "down time", Craig Mackintosh posted a piece on the main PRI site here: http://permaculture.org.au/2010/04/26/pri-website-target-of-cyber-aggression/
Many thanks to Murray, Craig and the team for getting everything back online!

It seems Craig was working under some restrictive conditions - so glad they have restored us.

It was quiet for a while after the last down time too. It seems to take a while for some of the not so regulars to find this space again.

Where as we were hanging out for the return and checking in more regularly then usual just to see if it was back on line. .. An addiction?

I think we should make a bit of a list of who is missing - starting from the first crash last year. Where is Kimbo Parker? And GBell? And Fernando Pessoa? And what about the girl from Ireland?
Would it be ethical to send them a PM to find out?

And Hamish Mac? But if you send them a PM they'll only get it if they log in.... Can the admin people send them an email inviting them back?

I'm wondering if we should do a monthly newsletter and send to the entire membership.
We could highlight active topics, preschedule down time maintenance, run competitions etc.
it would help bring people back and keep regulars interested...

Didn't we have a lot of new members before the last crash?
John at the UK permie forum sent out an email to the membership list last year, to encourage people to come back. I don't know how much work it is though.

Michael and 9and1f penned a great Christmas Newsletter last year that went out to membership. Unfortunately the old phpBB forum crashed at the same time or close to it.
For regular newsletters the system needs to be able to handle regular mail-outs. Can cause issues with larger sites useing a php based mailer.
Its something to look into and consider though.
