Hi everyone,

My wife and I will be moving to Australia in May/June and are looking forward to the great people and nature down under.

While I will be studying full time I never the less want to get a small lot and start to get into permaculture. We are both total newbies on the sector but very much enthused about the possibilities and the lifestyle.

Hope to connect with some of you in person soon.

Cheers,

Stefan

Right now I am in Singapore - but am German. It looks like either Melbourne or Adelaide right now. For our honeymoon we will be starting in Sydney and driving west to Broken Hill, then south do Adelaide before heading to Tassi over Melbourne.

Would love to connect with some of you guys on the way.

Nor the Sunshine Coast I'm afraid! You are missing the best bits. Except north west Tassie maybe...

NOT TRUE (about missing the best bits)

Unfortunately most people who visit australia stay on the coast and miss the inland..
You will be travelling through the blue mountains, lithgow etc which is nice, red gums, grey box on the flood plains in amongst the dry farm land, then mallee, and probably, mulga, when getting out toward hilston, even dryer still out through broken hill and adelaide. When I say dry, that's not necessarily a bad thing.. I love the drier parts of australia. Drop by Menindee lakes before Broken Hill, it's eerily beautiful.
I don't know that road from Broken Hill to Adelaide, but I'm sure there will be things to see..
And western victoria and then tassie will be great!

Definitely see the coast, but don't miss the trip you've got planned!

Hi Stefan and welcome!

You realize, of course, that all your geography knowledge will need to be turned upside down. As Permaculture was invented in Australia, we've designed a new map to show the world in a more appropriate perspective!

There's something wrong with that map. That big landmass in the top centre should be called West Island (or, for the more parochial, North Tasmania).

:-p

@ppp Thanks for the advise. I will probably be in touch and research some permaculture setups before making the trip down. Am really interested to stop by on a chat and pick up some advise on the way.

@Bill, hahaha - I got this map already - I think one of my former bosses got me a similar one several years back....

Welcome to the Forums
There are a few members here from Adelaide, and glimmerings of a permaculture group forming.

Adelaide/SA has a warm Mediterranean climate near the coast.
The "hills" behind the town has a lot of small farms and vineyards.
It was first settled by Germans so you should feel at home. They still make some of the best Rieslings in the world.
Land prices have doubled their in recent times, sorry to say!
You should be able to get lots of info and maps from the various State Tourist Boards.
Give yourself plenty of time to do the trip. It is a big one.
