I planted them as a legume crop and they have done really well and there are plenty of dry pods on the plants ready to harvest. I tried some beans when they were young - and the seeds tasted - well - like beans. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised. Didn't like the taste of the pods though.

So once harvested and processed I'll probably have about a kg of dry cowpea. Can I soak them and add them to casseroles and soups like you would use a borlotti bean? Any other suggestions?

Try it if you get hungry enough but if you are feeling underwhelmed by the response then you could store them for next years summer green manure.

I still have plenty of the seed that I originally bought - was a bit over zealous there.... I'm going to try adding them to soups and stews in winter to fill them out a bit. Will give a progress report when that happens.
