Growing rice in tubes?

I heard Bill Mollison talk about growing rice in tubes, with very high yields, but he didn't describe how it was done, or the size/depth of tube. Does anyone have any information about this growing method or know where I can go online to get info about this method? I can't find anything by searching. Thanks for your time
