I am looking for a builder or architect to help me some retrofitting designs for my 1940s house (faces due west!). Hot in summer , cold in winter.I consider myself handy at most things - but major building works are outside of my experience.

The main ideas are increasing natural ventilation, skylights, building a balcony on the west side, shades for the north side, multiple watertanks, and so on....

I recently read "Making your home sustainable" by Derek wWrigley. Great for ideas - although it suits latitude 35 S being cool/temperate best(we are about 28 S more sub tropical)

Does anyone know where Dave Lawrence is? He is/was a retrofitter in the Byron Bay area some time ago (according to old permaculture mags)

Any help appreciated.

Ok- is there anyone out there in a sub-tropical environment that has undertaken retrofitting projects for their own home?

G'day susann :)

Came across this resource the other day while doing some research on WSUD:

http://www.eco.com.au/directory/dir/builders.htm

or

http://www.eco.com.au/directory/dir/architects.htm

Might find someone here?

Hooroo, Mark.
