Just preliminary research, but what suburbs/areas should we be looking at when we do our online real estate searches?

I've lived relatively close to Cairns for a few years now - what's your 'wish list' of wants and needs...I might be able to help make things a bit clearer.

If I were considering cairns and environs I would look very carefully at how the property/land handles cyclones.

Cyclones produce high winds and enormous rainfalls. Six inches of rain in an hour is not unheard of so if you find something you like ask the council about stormwater flooding etc.

I also believe there are such things as 'cyclone alley[s]', areas that seem to get hit every time. I am not trying to panic you about cyclones, just saying, that when buying in an area work out the weather extremes and how your property fits into that picture.
