hi all....finally got a 'real' (as opposed to the blog) website going to start offering my services and working with permaculture around my local area....any feedback for it welcome. Still fine tuning it - will add a gallery soon.

Hello Kathleen :)
Congratulations on your web creation - it looks fantastic! I love the colour choices, and the simple but striking layout is perfect. If only everyone took a leaf out of your book re: simple and practical design. There are so many websites that I'm sure have a lot to give, if only one could get past the cluttered first page!

nice website! Nice pictures!
However the text seems to very long and difficult to read with the black background and little structure. (More paragraphs, links etc). If you are offering your services it is not very obvious for future clients at the moment, it looks a bit more than a private website (perhaps this is what you want), perhaps you should add projects you did for other clients.
Excuse my rough critics, I am German and I still don't know the polite australian way to criticise!
I've got a question as well: which webprovider did you take, I am planning (at least planning- whenever it comes to realization) a website project.

I did the exact same thing you did and clicked on the first link I saw...hmmm I said to myself...."self, this looks more like a blog than a services website, something is not quite right here". So I went back to the thread and looked a little more closely and noticed the second link... http://www.lusciouslandscapes.com Aha! Much different!
If I may offer my opinion, I think you did a GREAT job! Your site is soothing (I especially like the ferns) and does not assault my senses as so many websites out there do. You provide intuitive navigation links and state your business well. A delight!
One of the main reasons I use the Google search engine is it's utter simplicity...the name Google, a place to type in my search query, and a "go" button. No ads, no videos, no chaos or confusion (like Yahoo and most of the other sites). I do not appreciate being visually assaulted on a webpage. You have done a excellent job in conveying a sense of serenity and purpose. Thank you!

no you're really right! this looks quite different and the pictures are excellent.
everything green- my preferred colour, simple and good.
A nice little critic: (I always find something) I'm not shure if it's usual here: I would met a photo and some more information of you, projects, career...And a postal adress (if you are living in Sydney you won't prune in Darwin (wel there is the area code)

:D :D :D :D :D :D
Thankyou all so much for the great feedback. I appreciate your time.
Hedwig I'm glad you finally got to the luscious site as that's what I wanted to get feedback on.
I am going to keep adding things to it...such as a gallery with photos and design work that I have done and will be doing. I only started this business in June 2006 and the befores and afters are not that exciting as yet. But of course over time this will change and I will add progression shots into the gallery I will make.
I will also add a bit more to the about me....and edit it a bit better. I need to put in credentials! Silly me... all this is a steep learning curve.
I did the website on my own using a friends software, I think it's called corel paint pro 11. I have a telephone service provider that gives me free webspace (dodo). I paid for the name through http://www.webcity.com.au
All the photos on the website are from my own garden. I LOVE digital cameras!
Okay...thanks again everyone.

thanks kathleen. With the projects I would cheat a little bit and perhaps using ohotos from projects you did as an employed gardener (I know it's not totally correct, but you have to show your experience somehow) Or you write: project xy as an employed gardener yx, this is more correct or you ask even your old boss.
