We've got a quote for a solar hot water system from solahart. (3750 including rebates installation..)

First I would like to know if there are independant product tests available which includes the quality. Something like these tests of wahsing machienes etc. were they compare different brands.

I think the price of a reliable solar system will be more or less the same with solarhart edwards or whatever.

Second: what plans does Governmaent has? (State QLD as well as Federal?)
Teh sales representant told me that solar hit water will be mandatory in new houses. Will the rebates stay a tthe same (low) level? Will energy prices raise and will energex stick onto the cheap rates for electricity for hot water?

I hope that a solar hot water system will be paid aout when we sell our house, as it adds value. Because of the cheap rates they offer if you have a second meter it does not save you much on the bill.

G'day Hedwig,

I'd read this story (Click To View) (http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/s1865651.htm) before you make your decision.

If you spend money on a solar hot water system now, it may well not contribute much value when you sell your house years down the track.

Someone could conceivably install a full house solar system in the near future for almost the same price as you're considering spending on just a hot water system.

Worth thinking about. Personally, we're waiting for the new technology before we spend.

quite interesting, Jez. I think however, that hot water will be produced classicaly in future - that means solar hot water systems.
But if solar electric power will become cheaper we have to provide space on the roof.
