View Full Version : Giant Bunnies As Big As Dogs...
...and they're cute too.
This is an interesting article...fur being thrown away because it's deemed worthless...7kg of rabbit meat only feeding 8 people for one meal...giant edible bunnies...a shellshocked media-shy master breeder...North Korean intrigue...
What more could a person ask from a light entertainment piece?

I love the "chilling dispassion" part.
Have you seen that Michael Moore film, "Roger & Me"? It's about how the car manufacturer in his home town outsourced whole factories to Mexico and caused middle America to go to hell. There is a great interview with a woman who turns to rabbit breeding to survive, and is persecuted under health regulations. Her dispassionate description of the process of handling rabbits makes the film for me!
"I'm not increasing production and I'm not taking any more orders after this. They cost a lot to feed," he said
I have seen Roger and Me, but it was quite a while ago and I don't remember the part you mention.
The article did conjure up memories of the rabbit episode of The Goodies though.

Ha! Now that is going back a while. You don't remember that young woman describing how she would dispatch the rabbits and remove the skins for her customers? She's like the one example of a creative local response to the collapsed economy, you know, she's not getting rich, but she's survivin' with the help of her rabbits. Then the local health authorities closed her down because she was just a backyard farmer and didn't have an approved slaughterhouse. So, she was due to be evicted like all the other poor saps in that story.
Nah mate, I don't remember that bit...more beauracracy BS huh?
It's strange, I recall specific episodes of The Awful Truth and Moore's other films really well, but when I think about Roger & Me, I don't remember anything really specific...just the snow and people in the streets gathered and talking about how hard it's going to be in the future, the scenes at the factory's etc...Moore slamming Clinton a bit...and doesn't it end with that hilariously disgusting shyster from Nike having a good squirm and pretending to be human?
And Moore challenges him to a foot race?
I also seem to recall groaning when Moore is asked why doesn't he run for politics and he replies that he's too fat and ugly.
Drawing a blank on bunnies though...

Yeah, see, I can't remember any of that stuff you mention. Just the rabbit woman and the hapless bastard who goes around evicting everyone is what stuck with me from that film.
...the brain and memory in general are funny things. :D

I remember the rabbit lady, too. What a hopeless place, Flint, Michigan, so sad. Thereare lots of towns like that, that used to be prosperous, but the industry moved.... or died. All thats left is decaying infrastructure and people too poor to move.
Those huge rabbits are really impressive! I'd like a breeding pair of them, please![/i]
Yeah Chris, it just shows that you need to diversify industries as much as possible when things are booming. Lots of parts of Australia are the same, particularly areas which were once the sites of mining booms.
Those rabbits are expensive...but they'd sure be worth it in the long run if you could get them breeding well!
