Whenever I visit here these days there seem to be up to a dozen guests here using the forum.

You may chose to join sometime and introduce yourself. For any technical info it really helps to know something of your situation. You dont have to be too specific but it would improve the advice sought [or offered].

PS - WE ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH PHONES, Thank you.

ahh - the guests are search engine bots i've been led to believe. each request for a page makes a new guest appear. i could do something about it to make the guest list accurate but i just haven't felt the need yet ;)

When I visit to read, I almost never login and would therefore show up a guest. I usually only login to post.

I've always assumed that's how everyone is doing it as it's very rare to actually "find" someone logged in here. 8)

Murray, do you take any metrics about who and how often members login?

Hi Murray,

I've been logging in to browse "what's happening" and notice that there are still ads at the bottom of each post (except yours).

Am I "doing it wrong"?

Murray,

Wow, you recently said you earn about $40 a month off Google.

In 25,000 months you will be a millionaire...[less expenses..] :D

Could you please be a bit more specific about what exactly you mean by 'stay logged in' Murray?

Do you mean be logged in permanently? Sometimes I get booted and have to log in again if I'm away from the computer for a while or spend a while composing a post.

FWIW, I have no ads today...yesterday I couldn't load a single thread beyond the first post because the pages always stalled looking fruitlessly for the google syndication page.

It's probably a freak occurrence and this is in no way a complaint, I'm just thinking that if the same happened to someone on their first visit and they don't see that the stall is on google's end, they may well assume the site was broken.

hi jez -

the ads are only meant to be displayed if you're not logged in as a member. i stuffed it up over the last couple of days and ads were displayed for everyone unfortunately. i am still working on it. thanks for the bug report too btw.... :-)

Murray,

I wouldnt apologise for the ads in any post. I have even clicked on a few and considered putting them up as posts. The ads are hardly intrusions or pop-ups. I say leave them in the posts anyway if you consider them relevant. All anyone has to do with them is dismiss or ignore them.

When they start taking over this website I will consider it an issue. I appreciate the ethos of this site is that it isnt a commercial blind link or blatantly flogging anything. This seems to be the aim of many websites now which is a tragedy but ultimately the aim now of anyone setting up a website.

I believe we can include relevant advertising here and still enjoy it. When it gets to being intrusive or occupying most of our front page then it will irk most folk.

This forum still provides a free service to us, that and a few li'l ads I am hoping will keep it this way.

Now, having said all that I sincerely hope that all mobile phone floggers fuck up and die....
