Suitable seeds for distribution - Seeds

I have a friend currently serving in Iraq and wish to send some seeds to him to pass on to the locals. Any suggestions on what is suitable for the region?

where exactly in Iraq? One thing that immediately comes to mind is seeds of Jujube or Chinese Raison it is a very hardy arid land fruit tree. The seeds are available at horticultural suppliers like Queensland Horticultural Supplys.

I am looking for Halophyte seeds, like salicornia and others to do some trial on chilean desert conditions.
Especially in the middle east exists a lot of experience in this salt water farming.
