HI TEZZA.... :P :D

Planted the elaphant garlic you gave me in April just before I went to Townsville...thought it was worth a try. Well low and behold on my return there among the thistles is 3 plants of elephant garlic....not as tall as some books say it gets but considering the very little rain it got not too bad. One plant is about to flower the others have buds...Woo Hoo when do I harvest.

love
Cathy

Hi cathy Long time no hear, welcome back..weve missed you..

Glad you like the Garlic..its pretty hardy, it even grows in amongst my weeds

It should be ready for picking when the seadball is dried out..If you dont have a sead ball, i guess itll be when its browned of on the leaves..

My growth hasnt been quite the same as prev years Im putting it down to the far less then average rainfall, weve experienced this year.

In Australia, plant garlic by the full moon in May. So basically March to May like other bulbs. I've planted it later also but the growth is smaller than if planted at the appropriate time.

Also you can just cut & use the green growing part leaving the bulb in the ground if you want a mild garlic flavour for foods before its ready to harvest.

Happy gardening :)
