Hello Everyone again
Ive been doing Permaculture for about 15 years and i feel im long over due to get some accredatation.
I live South West of Western Australia.Town called Broomehill
Ive had some Difficulty in finding a way to get a certificate or even a Diploma.Mine main Permie intrests are Chooks,Ducks Fodder Trees,Fruit trees,Worms, and soon an Aquaculture system ie Fish (freshwater)Alternative Financing,Vegies,
Timber,Fire retardent trees and shrubs,Herbs the list is allmost endless.Being so far away from the main Teaching Venues and being unemployed..(at 50 im considered too old for work anymore).Ive been unable to take even the Basic intro to Permaculture so far.
What im really after is either a correpondence courses or any other courses that maybe held closer to my local area, which is apprx 150klms from Albany or 300klms from Perth.Ive been in contact with Jeff Nugent re one of his courses but the courses were cancelled due to lack of numbers.
Can anyone please help this poor experienced begginer
Yours
Tezza

Hi Tezza,

I noticed some time ago that The Australian Correspondace Schools offer Permaculture in their curriculum. Might be an idea to check if they are accredited!

The link is: http://www.acs.edu.au/courses/product_listings.aspx

Let us know how you go.... Dave

hey Tezza.

i'd get in contact with the Permaculture Institute or Hortius (based in Port Lincoln, SA - they are a horticulture...and now permaculture training provider)

a significant amount og work has gone on in the Australian Permaculture scene over the last 2-3 years, especially reagrding qualifications.

the certificate/diplome courses are extremely good and fit very well with a non-hierarchical structure and community based learning - however there were no effective quality control measures and i understand the bodies in charge had difficulty defining what the certificate actually meant? so you have a permaculture certificate...what does that mean?

key permaculture people have now worked with the TAFE system and National Training Authority to produce an Accreditted Permaculture Training Package. This will mean that in the near future qualifications from Certificate 1 - 4 and Diploma will be available in Permaculture through a Nationally Recognised system.

This system is what the TAFE and ACE sector use. It means that if you have a heap of experience you may not even need to do a course, but can pay a biot of money and have your current skill and knowledge recognised and recieve a certificate.

i'd go to Robyn Francis's Site (http://www.permaculture.com.au) and email her to ask her who the WA contact is and pursue it from there.

cheers

The Australian Correspondence Schools site explains what accreditation attaches to each course. I'm doing a Certificate in Horticulture majoring in permaculture with them. I got 72 hours credit for having a PDC already. I've found them good so far, though at my current rate of doing assignments the 2 year certificate will take 15 years. What was that about taking your time and observing in permaculture...?!
