hi all
i am very new to all this so be gentle :)
we are thinking about having chooks when we move into our new property, i am busy researching as we speak, i have a rabbit hutch which we bought when we bought our guinea pigs as recommended by the pet shop- they had it for about a week & after researching more on the net found out it was far too small for them so i built them another
ANYWAY , would i be able to use this is anyway for the chooks?
it is rectangular 4ft long (122cm) by 1.8ft wide (40cm) stands off of the ground -it is divided into 2 sections 1 wooden floor 1.4ft(40cm) wide one with wire floor 2.8ft (82cm)
the front is metal & wood

any suggestions would be fantastic

Maybe you could put it under a tree and use it as a chook house? Not too sure how many chooks could fit in it...maybe if you went with bantams you might get three or four in there. Fix it up so you can lift the cover where they would lay eggs.

I must admit I'm no expert but it does seem a little small....but I think if you were to place it under shade/shelter and use some pickets/posts and chook wire to fence an area off....something you could pick up and move around the yard/property every few days.

Of course you'll need to consider foxes etc with this.

Myabe just a temp house until you can build something more permament?

thanks for the reply - i thought it might be too small - was thinking of having 4 chooks - wondered if it could be used as nesting box or something-i would rather recycle stuff than buying new iyswim
as there is nothing in the garden we hope to have them free range during the day & then shut in at night

oh well back to the drawing board :D
