I only have a back garden, is it ok just to have one goose, are they easy to maintain? what do i need to feed them? would I need two in order to have goose eggs?

Thanks for your enquiry but i feel a back garden wouldn't be suitable to maintain geese. And also it would be best to keep geese in pairs.

Hi, we're interested in the free geese if they're still available. We have plenty of space and a nice dam for them to call home. Do they need an enclosed yard or would they prefer to roam? Hope to hear from you soon. kat.

I have had geese in my surburban back yard for over 20 years.
2 females are the best for me. They are social and like a buddy. And quieter.
I recently lost one and after trying other replacements returned to one and now she seems to think I'm her buddy because of my outside bathroom and calls out. will try again and get another girl. Don't need a male for them to lay. They only lay about 25 eggs/year, laying season. The eggs are delicious, I make scrambled egg mix and freeze.
They are not hard to look after. They need a water vessel big enough to dunk their heads. or
I have bowls about 25cm deep and about 70+ cm across so they can have a bath. It gets dirty after a few days and they avoid it. Not hard to bale out onto the garden. Can get cheap ones at Bs that last about 5 yrs or the produce store has rubber ones. I've recently upmarketed to two.
Geese are grazers and will eat grass wheat carrots cabbages lettuce [the outside leaves from supermarkets if you can get them] bread, thistles, try them on any vegitation.
They don't need a house until it's egg laying time around September to November. You can build a temporary shelter with bales of straw under a tree or in some quiet corner.
They have big sloppy poos but they are not as gross as a ducks. They dry out and can be raked away or wash them away with a hose.
Geese are good value, not only do they taste good they are interesting to watch as their personalities and tastes emerge.
Good watch dogs especially at night. They call out if something unusual is happening.
Go for it Harvey, get 2 females or a pair, both worth the effort and that is not that much really.
I have had lots of laughs watching them, the chookies and the dog all interacting in my basic backyard.
