Have you seen http://www.reddit.com ? That would be a very cool thing to have here solely for Permaculture and related links. Have you seen any open source software for that kind of thing?

hey mike
yes - i know reddit. it's a lot like Digg and a couple other community link buckets. i'm not sure how something like that would help us judging by the volume of links we see here.

It's called social bookmarking, apparently. If others are anything like me, they would hesitate to post a link unless it was really special. With this type of thing, old links, new links, green links, blue links could be posted, and their rating would indicate to others their worth.

LOL why? that's precisely what the link me up forum is for! :)
ok - let's look at the usage of the social bookmarking thing.
step 1: somebody has to be first to submit the link
step 2: other people look at it and add it to their profile, raising the popularity of it.
step 1 we already have. step 2 i don't believe is even useful for this community. am i missing something?

Not quite sure of the details or the inner workings. I don't do any voting on reddit. I just figured that all the links would go up in one easy to read list, we would visit any that looked interesting, and would vote on those that were.
I find interesting links (to me) every day, but don't bother to add them to Link-Me-Up. Probably because they aren't worth commenting on - just reading. Or they might be fleeting, and I don't consider them worthy of a permanent record.
I am also very aware of the expense (if you can call it that) of a user opening up a discussion thread. Hence my hesitation to add a link unless it is special.
Maybe I'll just become a little less hesitant.
