Hi Murray
I like the idea of the Permapedia. Have you thought of a strategy to keep articles on track? Or is that something that is supposed to "just happen" as more people get involved?
It appears to me that some articles read like forum threads, rather than a reference work. And they go all over the place. For instance, in the chicken article we find dead dogs being fed to eagles, with a plea not to report the writer to the SPCA.

Now that I have had a closer look and have had a go at editing an article, it seems to me that another forum here might be a good idea. One specifically devoted to the creation of the Permapedia.
Especially during the early phase (when we are finding our feet), discussion on the form the the wiki does (and should) take might be better in a broad forum, rather than taking place in the discussion page of each article.
For example:
A number of articles have been added that simply contain a link to one of the forums on this site (eg http://www.permapedia.com/index.php/Urban_forestry ). Now, this might be judged okay by some (although the parameters of a good article do warn against it). However, it is not sensible to make this comment on the discussion page because a good number of other pages have been created in the same manner.
However, if the contributors to the wiki were to congregate in a forum specifically for them, then we could discuss general form.

hi mike
sorry for my late reply -- i've been launching a new business (http://www.qunu.com) and things are hectic.

sure - if you think that's what we need, i'll create it.

ok - that was just a temporary thing i did. i found a topic on the forum and linked a PP article to it, fully intending to revisit a little later and rewrite the content into a full article. never got around to it.

ok - i'll do it now.
cheers!
:)
