I see many sites in America selling themselves as Certified Permacuture Training facilites. Just who is certified in America? My understanding that the folks in Iliinios are the only actual certified Permaculture (by PRI) in America?

Is a PDC from others just as good, i.e. legal as a PRI Certificate?

Unless the Tagari site needs updating (Nadia Lawton is in there, so it looks pretty up to date), those other people are not registered teachers.

I called two scholls that are offering pemaculture courses that they claim are "Certified" and they claim at least one or more instuctors have been taught by PRI and received a certificate or a dipolma (they did not specify). It is my understanding that Bill M. and PRI encorage new graduates that received a PDC to start teaching right away, under the supervision of a senior instructor who has a DIPOLMA (i.e. two years experience and verified by PRI) Then they can apply to be registered to teach and issue Permaculture Design Certificates. Am I correct so far?

Does each teacher (regeistered with PRI) issue their own custom Certificates, or are the certificates mailed out by PRI?

It is our intention to become a training center in Hawaii for Permaculture and I want to get off on the right foot.

Teachers do not need to be diploma holders nor do they have to teach under diploma holders. Anyone can teach, but your PDC will not be registered unless you are issued a certificate by a registered teacher. The teacher gets his or her certificate from the Permaculture Institute, signs them, then issues them to the students. Normaly this is done on the last day of the course.

If I understand you correctly, if I fly to New Mexico next week and take a course for $1,500 and IF the teacher is not registered with PRI, then I will not receive a certificate isssued by PRI?

Since these folks claim to have "Certified" Permaculture courses, who is the certifing agency? Is there any agency other than PRI?

I see on the internet a group called American Permaculture Insitute. Are they legitimate? Are they respected by PRI?

If a person has been taught Permaculture by an unregistered teacher, can they show their course material or be interviewed or tested by a PRI registered teacher and sign off a Certificate?

Aloha,
Glenn

PI, not PRI. But yes. The teacher is the one who awards the certificate then records that with the PI, if I'm not mistaken.

In the case you mention, I don't know with whom the course is "certified."

Please check with the Permaculture Institute. Contact Lisa Mollison at admin@tagari.com

Sorry, I can't tell you about the American Permaculture Institute. I don't know about them. Personally, I'd want to go with someone registered with PI. I've read too many accounts and seen too many pictures of people (usually in North America) who think that permaculture involves praying to the sun god or some such nonsense. What you need to be doing is learning a whole lot of applied science.

Also, I don't think that certificates are awarded to anyone other than students of registered teachers. Please check that with Lisa.
