Would like to have a go at growing rice at home. Does anybody know about doing this? Wetland versus dryland and does anyone have any seed rice. Apparently there used to be lots of different varieties of rice which were regional and have now been lost like many heritage plants. Thanks

Don't know anything about growing rice but I have a copy of The One Straw Revolution an Introduction to natural farming by Masanobu Fukuoka...he's Japanese.
If you are not familiar with him natural farming is a well known process in organic permaculture circles for growing mainly rice crops. His fields are mulched with rice straw and duck poo added as fertilizer and most importantly the fields are not flooded as in conventional farming. I will be in Brisbane (Narangba) in 2 weeks if you would like to borrow my book or Google Fukuoka and I expect you'll get heaps more info.
Cheers
Cathy
