Sound like a dumb question? I live in Athens, Georgia, USA. All the climate zone maps I can find look as if I'm in subtropical, but I notice that most people close to me geographically list themselves as warm temperate. Any thoughts?

Thanks so much, Markos! I guess what I'm really asking is specifically "climate zone" rather than hardiness zone. I'm glad you sent the USDA map, though. I see that it plants good ole Athens, GA squarely in Zone 8a. I have seen a map that seemed to indicate 8b, which I do not believe is accurate. My question about whether we fall in subtropical or warm temperate is I guess more of a question "of interest." I think that given the most recent warnings that global temperatures will probably rise more quickly than expected, I'm going with subtropical! Good to meet you!
In my opinion zone 8a is too cool to be subtropical - citrus and many other subtropicals probably won't grow there under most conditions - so I think it would be characterized as "warm temperate."
