Many old septic tank systems are becoming very water logged at the moment and posing a significant environmental and public health risk. How can they be improved?

Utilising Water Conserving Fixtures
Educating Householders about Wastewater Minimisation and Blockages
Minimising Chemical Contamination
Desludging Septic Tanks to reduce risk of sludge or scum carry over
Use of Septic Tank Additives
Utilising Outlet Filters to help prevent carry over when there are sludge gas eruptions
Utilisation of a Licenced Plumber
When to use a Land Capability Assessor?
Preventing Ingress of Stormwater or Ground Water into septic tanks and pumpwells
Preventing Backflow into Septic Tanks
Preventing Back Siphoning into Pumpwells
Aeration
Cut-off Drainage
Wastewater Distribution Methods - Series, Parallel, Pumped, Gravity, Pulse Dosing
Air or Gas Locks
Replacing Old or broken pipes
Soil Compaction
Recommended vegetation
Septic Tank System Protection and Setback Distances
Retrofitting Septic Tanks into Wormfarm Septic Tanks

I cant help thinking the best way to improve a septic system would to be to utilise the nutrient.

I agree but have to start with the basic environmental and public health issues first but one day I am sure we will get to more direct processing!
Just looking at ways to get the best out of the old infrastructure at the moment when people are short of funds.
