Okay folks, a milestone stone has been reached. We get the Keys to the property on Friday and start the big move (all of 5 km but a huge leap in mindset) to the new place. As promised, it will become a venture for all and sundry for people to help in the planning stages, and I will take lots of photos so people can be part of the project!

Am thinking of setting up a website so people can submit ideas for particular areas/projects, so it will become a virtual planning community event from this here brain trust of international sources, but I will be doing all the hard work of course!

Joel, it would be remiss of me not to include an aquaponics area (lets face it it is the ultimate "water feature") so will be in touch to get book, DVD etc (I think Christopher would shoot me if I didn't!)

And maybe in a few months I will write an article and see if anyone wants to print it...

This forum has given me more inspiration and help than I could ever express...so I will do it by planting my first fruit tree in honour of you all!!

OOOOOOh, wow! Congrats on the keys! What a cool development.

What are you going to plant?

Also, don't worry. I am pretty relaxed, and nonjudgemental on most things. I wouldn't shoot you for not doing aquaponics :wav: .

Hi there Honeydale :D

Looks like we think the same?!

I set up our website for just the same purpose, but also as a way of helping my family in NZ to keep tabs on what we're up to.

I'll be checking in with interest as your farm develops

Maybe I can steal a few ideas from ya when you aint looking?

You know I've been thinking for a little while now....and you made me think of it again Honey.....but everytime we talk about aquap....oops! almost said it!

Has anyone thought of setting up a water feature as opposed to grow beds for their systems??

Congrats Honey, I know just how you guys feel :)

The website is a great idea...am going to set one up myself, though probably not quite so interactive as the one you're thinking of.

:)

Your post has re-enthused me Honeydale. It is such a wonderful time, when we first look upon our land... everything is possible and has potential, and is we just want to dive in and transform it all overnight.

I wish you all the best with seeing your dreams become reality and look forward to reading how things are going.

I have thought long and hard about what tree to plant...and come up with the ultimate...its either going to be walnut or hazlenut....cos you are all a bunch of nuts in here!!

One more sleep and we get the keys....YAY

I have told the chooks they are moving to a new bigger house (There is an old chook shed on site that needs some loving) and they were excited...but maybe that was the snails I had in the bucket for them..

Is always exciting to move into a new house.

Will you be moving right away?

Well done on the move.

Re: the chook house, I have read that nasties can stay in the soil and in the housing for quite some time, if you don't know the history of the chook house it might be worth, spraying a bottle or two of something to kill off any bugs, and clean the run up too.

I have been reading "introduction to permaculture" and would agree with sitting back and watching the cycles of the property before doing anything to big.

The more I read about the permaculture design system the more I want to start with a clean slate, but I love my property here and doubt we will move for a long long time.

We have not had to do anything to the house yet apart from insulate the roof, I have drawn up house plans and changed them more times than I should have, we are now after 2 years ready to make some changes which will suit the house and it's flows.

Make sure you go visit your new neighbors too, get off on the right foot, we have dinner and drinks at least every two weeks with one of ours, it's amazing what a 6 pack of cold xxxx will do to start a friendship when your neighbor finishes his weekend mowing.

Where is your new place?

Good luck and enjoy your new home. :D

Nice work Honey...

I think you'd probably have to plant more than one nut tree, around here it's more like mixed nuts. :D
