Just read the article, "Raw Milk for Pastures" in Acres Magazine, Vol 40, No 5, and it was awesome! David Wetzel, of Nebraska uses 3 gallons of raw milk/acre of land. After doing a test comparing 45 days on treated vs untreated land, "16 plots were clipped and an extra 1,200 pounds of grass on a dry matter basis were shown to have grown on the treated versus non-treated land" (16). And the porosity of the soil doubled! It will also cause grasshoppers to disappear, feeds all the good microbes in the soil, and reduces sodium by half.
I couldn't find an Acres copy of the article online, but this person posted it from another source on the permies website: http://www.permies.com/bb/index.php?topic=4291.0
They do a better job describing the "why"s in the article.

You're welcome frosty--glad it's helpful. And yes, pebble, he sprayed 3 gallons raw milk mixed with 17 gallons water per acre. He did that for a long time, and in recent years, he has added liquid molasses and fish to the mix, and spreads a bit of lime.

It is great in poly tunnels too as it also adds to fungal control. My excess goes into cheeses (direct nourishment) but well done.

You could sill use the whey, it may not be as effective, but i water my plants with whey whenever i have any and they love it.
