I was just over in the supermarket and I was looking at rubbish bags..

They now have odourised rubbish bags....... :? :? Well they may have had them for a while but thats the first time I have seen it, and they come in a range of different smell, not just your standard lemon smell and fresh pine smells, but chocolate............................

Chocolate smelling garbage bags.......??????? :? :? :? :?
We're just never going to be happy till we destroy this planet.. Damn you bag makers, stop being bloody stupid.....  Besides, it didn't really smell like chocolate anyway, smelt more like a sandwich that you would feed to a pig.....

Does anyone have a more stupid thing they have seen lately in the shops???

Look at all the sheer JUNK made from plastic. It isn't good for anything, and serves no useful purpose. JUNK!

Whenever this topic comes up, I am reminded of a packaged frozen dinner that I saw some years ago. It was frozen scrambled eggs that only took five minutes to thaw and reheat in the microwave.

Can stupid on the internet count? I was looking up world ammonia production and natural gas consumption yesterday when I came across a blog dedicated to denying peak oil. Well, sort of. The guy started off saying it would happen but that it wouldn't cause any problems at all and then moved on to denying it altogether later.

Anyway, your line reminded me of one thing he said.

We're just never going to be happy till we destroy this planet..
The peak oil denier won't, that's for sure. He had this to say with respect to the world's environment regarding scaling back over-consumption:

I will tell you one thing: mankind did not come all this way, just to crawl back into a hole and retreat. Screw the earth. It's like the egg we hatched out of. We suck its resources dry, and then we step out of the nest and fly into the wild black yonder. (He means outerspace there.)
How does someone come to such a pass where they actually advocate destroying the very system that keeps him alive?

Have heart though people. Even such an individual has valuable contributions to make*.

Ouch. What an idiot! How do yo argue against something that stupid? Talking to this person would be like talking to a wall....

I tghink this is just an extrem cases of not wanting to see reality, denying it exists in the face of overwhelming evidence so that uncomfortable truths are avoided.

Still, tho, remarkably stupid.

Oh my. It amazes me that people can be this blind, that their justification for mindless consumption is so great that they can disregard the diversity of our home - do you think that he realises that he is only speaking from a very small portion of people who use the vast majority of our planet's resources? Or perhaps he thinks that the rest of the human population is just as dispensable as the other life on earth...

He must be a very sad and lonely person indeed.

I've learnt the hard way that you don't. Regardless of any facts you provide or logical deduction you use, the response will be ad hominem, non sequitur, straw man fallacy, poison the well fallacy, diversionary humour fallacy, appeal to majority fallacy, etc.

do you think that he realises that he is only speaking from a very small portion of people who use the vast majority of our planet's resources?
No, I doubt it. He did say that oil peaking globally does not mean a local peak and explained how the U.S. has consolidated sources and is "the school bully," meaning that it will steal oil from others if needed. (Of course, he was ignoring the fact that a finite resource such as oil will suffer from diminishing returns everywhere eventually.)

Or perhaps he thinks that the rest of the human population is just as dispensable as the other life on earth...
He quotes William S. Burroughs saying that "man is an artifact designed for space travel" and he wrote a piece titled "WHY HUMANS MUST GROW INTO SPACE." It's his belief that the human race must get into space, thus we must consume the planets resources, "suck its resources dry," as he says. Why?

My reasoning is simple: If we don't get into space, then the human race will inevitably die, just like the dinosaurs. We will be killed by an asteroid, or a comet, or the death of the sun.

Since I can't resist, here's one gem from this guy:

Dating back to Hubbert, a misconception has been floating around that fuel production will halt when EROEI drops to or below 1, i.e. when the energy invested in harvesting the fuel equals or exceeds the energy obtained. This is incorrect for a number of reasons...

A lot of these people are just web trolls who like to irritate people with meaningless, mindless drivel.

You know SSS, right?

Well, SSC (shoot, shovel, compost)

I think it would be poetic justice if a piece of space junk fell out of the sky and landed on this fellow head…

Lets just hope that there is more like minded people of us than him and that they leave Earth to us before they totally destroy Her.

Or that he is just a troll out to raise a storm like Sue suggests...but I fear that even if he is a troll this mindset does exist and he is just mirroring it.

Tezza, don't worry. I do not engage in dialog with this guy. I have left one post anonymously and it ends there.

To everyone else, I'll give the address, but first a plee. Do not engage with this person. Your time is far more valuable than that.

Without further ado, here is Peak Oil Debunked (http://peakoildebunked.blogspot.com/), or Mental Illness On Parade (http://peakoildebunked.blogspot.com/).

That's a bit like a Jewish family inviting Hitler is dinner. It would be a god way to ruin the board.

Hi all,

I have been sitting on an idea for a while - however it might turn out to be a stupid invention.

to me there are 2 things that are enviromental hazards (around my house anyway), and they are plastic shopping bags and CCA treated sleepers.

Is it possible to re-cycle the plastic shopping bags into plastic sleepers? Maybe in a mould with heat and pressure?

It would cut down dramatically on CCA treated timber usage, and there would be somewhere for a lot of shopping bags to go. Apparently the bags take 100's of years to breakdown, maybe you could buy them cheaper than CCA timber and they would last a lot longer, be a lot lighter and easier to work with, come in different colours, have a rough surface that would blend in with a garden.

Who knows - might work?

just remember - you saw it here first!

I got banned from Freepers after my first post because I dared to politely disagree with what one of the posters had said (and even agree with some of it). They certainly don't like dissent. At any rate, communication with them is pointless. They are not engaged in politics; they are engaged in religion. Facts don't matter because they have their political beliefs, and belief is all they need.
