Hi Murray.. I type in my nickname and it comes up as a registered name and asks for a password. Is that recognising my membership from here?? I'm not very computer literate I'm afraid..

hi
lolly: try a slightly different username please.
corn: IE should get in no problem.. unless it's an old version.. when was the last time you did an Internet Update? maybe you could try an updated browser like firefox? http://www.getfirefox.com i can't recommend it enough..

>will struggled along with IE...either it works or it doesn't!
corn: why's that? IE was responsible for literally 99% of the spyware infestations i've had the pleasure to help friends and family with over the past 2 years. since moving them all to FireFox, not one call. i strongly recommend it.
i can understand if there's a corporate policy in your workplace against installing new software, but if this is a home system i can't think of any argument against installing and using it as your main browser.

kn oath Murray...... When there are many alternatives theres no reason to use IE unless of company policy, and the IT departments will catch up sooner or later...
Firefox is brilliant...... I have it on a couple of computers and I install it on all puters I work on for people..
I generally still use opera myself which works well, though not quite as slick as firefox....
Make the change if your able Corny.... :D

hey corny
now you can start using the wondrous invention that is TABBED BROWSING. :D :D :D :D
if you go search for something on google, normally you gotta go into each result, and then back out, and then into the next, and then back out, etc.. etc..
now, with firefox, do this: middle click (or wheel-click) on several results. you'll see that they open in the BACKGROUND and load in the content, leaving you to keep viewing the original page.
click on the tab to go to the page... to close it, middleclick on its tab (or wheelclick).
i don't know how i ever lived without this incredible feature.

Nope, lol...have read then tried...then read some more....lol I have no idea! Clicking the wheel button I can do...can't see anything happening when I do though..no tabs?!
Still..gives me something to do tonight! :)

Bugger..! when you put the cursor over a link, and you would normally click the left button to open it, but instead you click the middle (wheel) button..... It should open it in a seperate tab.....
Perhaps you just haven't noticed them popping up, keep pressing the middle button on a link, you should see little tabs opening up under your main address bit where you type the 'www.blahhh.....' stuff..

Am getting square eyes from looking lol...but no tabs!
Will keep hunting!
I can get the tabs by right clicking the link then selecting 'open in new tab'

yay....... well at least you have tabs, thats the most important thing......... :D In the browser I use, opera, I have to right click and open in a tab, middle button doesn;t work.
Just so long as you have your tabs happening because you will find it a great asset... while doing a google search or scanning a webpage you just keep right clicking and opening up in new tabs, then you can go back through the opened tabs checking the different pages... ANd you don't have a dozen seperate windows to shut down.... Soon you'll wonder how you did without it...

you can control+leftclick to get a new tab as well.
re: your mouse -- maybe its wheel isn't being registered as a click by Windows...

Do people still wander into the chat room?
Lolly
06-12-2005, 07:27 PM
Hi Corny.. I hope your move went well. I've been busy for the last few weeks and haven't been able to catch up on all that's been happening around here.
I used to check into the chat room often but got tired of the echoing walls from a perpetually empty room!
Will check in again from time to time..
:D
